Texas falls to Oklahoma State in Big 12 Semifinals

Texas dropped a heartbreaker to Oklahoma State in the Big 12 Semifinals in San Antonio on Friday. The Longhorns played their hearts out, pushing the game into double overtime before falling to an Oklahoma State goal with just 2 minute lefts in the second overtime. It was a gutty performance by the Longhorns going toe to toe with the #2 team in the nation and more than holding their own the entire game. Texas’ keeper, Alexa Gaul, stood on her head to stop everything thrown at her through 107 minutes of play.

In the end sophomore midfielder Kristin Kelley snuck in the golden goal for the Cowgirls on a point blank shot from five yards out via a pass from Miriam Rhinehart.

Texas, though, had nothing to hang their heads about after leaving everything out on the field. With key starters from the beginning of the season gone due to injury, the team more than rose to the occasion and very nearly toppled one of the very best teams in the country. Texas will now wait until 3:30 Central time for the NCAA Selection Committee to announce the 64 team draw for the 2011 NCAA Women’s Soccer Tournament.
